Individual Therapy
Whether it’s anxiety, old trauma, relationship patterns that keep repeating, or a habit you can’t seem to break — you don’t need another set of coping tricks. You need to understand why the pattern exists, and build the tools to change it from the inside.
Maybe you’re the person everyone counts on, but inside you’re running on overdrive; replaying conversations, bracing for what could go wrong, unable to just let a thing be finished once it’s finished.
Maybe something happened years ago that you thought you’d already dealt with, and certain situations (a tone of voice, a specific kind of silence) still knock you sideways in a way that doesn’t match the size of what’s actually happening now.
Maybe you know exactly what you “should” be doing (setting a boundary, trusting your gut, taking up space) and still find yourself unable to actually do it when the moment arrives.
Maybe your anger feels bigger than the moment, and afterward you’re left with shame and the question, “Why did I react like that?” That’s often CPTSD anger and rage, and it’s your nervous system protecting you the way it learned to long ago, not a character flaw.
Maybe a past relationship still follows you into new ones, and you’re ready to start healing from past relationship trauma so it stops shaping who you trust and how you love.
If any of this sounds familiar, you’re not broken, and you’re not doing it wrong. You’ve been carrying strategies that made sense once and no longer serve you, and no one has shown you, specifically, how to put them down.
My approach: Empathetic Self-Reflection™
This is the foundation of how I work. Instead of the loop of self-criticism and self-doubt that most people bring into therapy, you’ll learn to hold your own experience with genuine respect — trusting your perceptions and intuition instead of overriding them. Once that shift happens, everything else becomes possible, because you’re no longer fighting yourself while trying to heal.
From there, we build out the specific tools you need:
- Understanding your triggers. We’ll trace a reaction back to where it was actually learned, separating what’s happening right now from what your nervous system learned to expect from the past — so you can respond with choice instead of reflex the next time it shows up.
- Replacing thought patterns that no longer serve you. Old “shoulds” and rules — many of them formed to keep you safe as a child — often keep you stuck long after they stopped being useful. We’ll identify which ones are quietly running your life and help you consciously choose new ones that actually fit who you are now.
- Working with the body, not just the story. Talking about what happened isn’t always where healing lives. We use body-based techniques to help release trauma that’s stored physically, so you don’t have to relive or narrate a painful memory in detail for it to lose its grip on you.
- Making friends with your feelings. Most people come to therapy afraid of their own emotions, trying to think their way out of feeling them. You’ll learn what your feelings are actually for, so they become information instead of something to manage or avoid.
- Building boundaries that hold. We’ll work on the practical skill of protecting your time, energy, and attention — not as a personality overhaul, but as a specific, learnable set of tools.
- EMDR, when it fits. For trauma that’s stuck in the nervous system rather than just the story, I incorporate EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) — a well-researched, evidence-based approach that helps the brain finish processing a memory so it stops firing like a present-day threat. It’s offered the same way as our regular sessions, over secure video, and can be woven into ongoing individual work or done as a dedicated EMDR Intensive when you want to go deeper in a single sitting.
Who this tends to help most
This work is a strong fit if you’re an overthinker who’s tired of intellectualizing your way around a feeling instead of through it, if you’re a trauma survivor looking for a path that doesn’t require re-living the worst moments in detail, or if you’re someone who already knows, cognitively, what needs to change but can’t seem to make it stick.
This isn’t about staying in therapy forever
My goal is to make ongoing therapy unnecessary for you — not to keep you as a long-term client. I walk you through this process with whatever you bring to your first session, then the next thing, and the next, until you can use these tools completely on your own.
I bring more than clinical training to this work — I’ve done my own deep healing around childhood trauma, so this isn’t theoretical for me. I know what it takes because I’ve walked it myself.
Not in California, Utah, or Wyoming?
I’m licensed to provide therapy only in California, Utah, and Wyoming. If you live somewhere else, you can still work with me through coaching. My HeartMath Stress Management Program is a 4-session, one-on-one wellness coaching program. You’ll learn practical, body-based skills to calm your nervous system, so you can stay in present time when old stress responses start to take over.
Coaching is education and skill-building. It isn’t psychotherapy, and it doesn’t diagnose or treat mental health conditions. If you’re looking for therapy and live outside the states where I’m licensed, I’m glad to help you think through what to look for in a licensed therapist near you.
