EMDR Intensive

Focused, Concentrated Trauma Processing — In One Extended Session

Weekly 50-minute sessions work well for a lot of things. But when trauma is actively disrupting your life — your relationships, your ability to trust, your capacity to feel safe in your own body — the stop-and-start rhythm of once-a-week therapy can slow down the very progress you’re trying to make. Every session starts by re-orienting to where you left off. By the time you’re deep in the work, it’s time to stop.

An EMDR Intensive removes that ceiling. Instead of processing a memory or pattern in fragments over weeks or months, we work through it in one extended, uninterrupted container — with the time and continuity trauma processing actually needs to move.

Who this is for

This intensive is designed for individuals whose trauma is significantly impacting their functioning or their relationships — not just uncomfortable memories, but patterns that are actively running the show: hypervigilance, shutdown, reactivity, or a felt sense of being stuck no matter how much you’ve already “talked about it.” It’s also a strong fit if you’re supporting relational healing — processing an individual trauma that keeps surfacing inside your partnership — alongside or instead of couples work.

How it works

  1. Pre-intensive consultation. Before your intensive, we talk through what’s bringing you in, identify the specific memories or patterns we’ll target, and make sure this format is the right fit for where you are.
  2. The 4-hour intensive. We move through EMDR’s structured reprocessing protocol at the pace your nervous system needs, with built-in breaks — the kind of sustained, uninterrupted time that lets deep processing actually complete instead of pausing mid-way.
  3. Post-intensive integration. A follow-up session to help the changes settle, address anything that surfaced afterward, and decide what (if anything) comes next.

What this isn’t

This isn’t crisis stabilization, and it isn’t a substitute for ongoing care if what you need is longer-term, gradual support. It’s a concentrated option for people who are ready to do focused, high-intensity work in a single sitting rather than across many weeks.

Fee

$1,800 for a 4-hour EMDR Intensive. Intensives are self-pay; visit Fees & Insurance for how out-of-network reimbursement works.

What trauma can look like day to day
Trauma doesn’t always look like memories. Sometimes it looks like sudden anger that feels too big for the moment. My guide on CPTSD anger and rage explains why it happens and what helps it settle.

When the trauma came from a relationship
If the patterns you want to process started in a past relationship, read how to heal from past relationship trauma for a step-by-step look at the healing process.

Other ways to do this work
If an intensive isn’t the right fit yet, weekly individual therapy gives you steadier, longer-term support. If the trauma keeps showing up in your marriage, the Couples Therapy Intensive gives both of you focused time together. Not sure which one fits? Working with me one-on-one explains how I decide whether you’re ready for an intensive.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your health care will cost

Under the law, health care providers need to give patients who don’t have certain types of health care coverage or who are not using certain types of health care coverage an estimate of their bill for health care items and services before those items or services are provided.

  • You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any health care items or services upon request or when scheduling such items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
  • If you schedule a health care item or service at least 3 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 1 business day after scheduling. If you schedule a health care item or service at least 10 business days in advance, make sure your health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after scheduling. You can also ask any health care provider or facility for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service. If you do, make sure the health care provider or facility gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing within 3 business days after you ask.
  • If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more for any provider or facility than your Good Faith Estimate from that provider or facility, you can dispute the bill.

For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises/consumers, email FederalPPDRQuestions@cms.hhs.gov, or call 1-800-985-3059.
