The Center for Healthy Relationships
Trauma-Informed Therapy for Couples & Individuals — Serving California, Utah & Wyoming
Before you can enjoy healthy relationships, you must begin by healing yourself.
At The Center for Healthy Relationships, we specialize in helping couples and individuals whose relationships are still being shaped by old trauma — even after you've "worked on it" elsewhere. Effective therapy means teaching, guiding, and supporting you in activating your own healing system, not handing you another decade of homework. Many clients tell us they learn more about themselves in their first session with us than in years with other therapists.
Our mission is to help you eliminate your need for long-term therapy by pulling back the curtain on therapist "trade secrets" and showing you how to use them yourself. Our proprietary approach is focused on giving you the skills and tools to get your life and your relationship where you want them — effectively, efficiently, and consistently.
These tools are your birthright. Healing resides within your body, mind, and soul, and it's your right to learn how to activate it — whether the challenge is personal or shared with a partner.
Tamara Ridge, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, is our Founder and Director. Her guiding principle: "The answers are inside you. Trust yourself." We're currently accepting new couples and individual clients in California, Utah, and Wyoming via telehealth. I've spent 30 years helping couples and individuals untangle the trauma responses that quietly run their relationships — the overreactions, the shutdowns, the "why do I keep doing this?" moments. My approach isn't about reliving your past; it's about understanding what it's doing in your present, and giving you the exact tools to change it.
I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist working with clients across California, Utah, and Wyoming — fully online, so you can do this work from home.
One of the common misperceptions about couples therapy is that it requires "rehashing" old pains and dragging up things neither of you wants to discuss. Another unnecessary myth is that a therapist holds "expert status" on how your relationship should work. We don't believe either of these things.
At The Center for Healthy Relationships, we're interested in the experiences that intrude into your relationship right now, so we won't ask you to dig through your shared history for old wounds. Instead, we focus on teaching you both how to resolve the friction you're feeling right now. In present time. Maybe one of you endured criticism as a child and has worked hard to build confidence since. You're both great at supporting each other's goals, and most days your past doesn't feel like it's running the show. But then your partner brings up something small — a missed text, a tone of voice — and suddenly one of you is overreacting, and the other doesn't understand why. Over time, that gap widens.
Perhaps one of you carried a trauma or loss into the relationship. You've talked about it. You've worked through it together. But certain moments — an argument, a silence, a specific look — still land harder than they should.
In each of these situations, residual feelings from the past are still alive in your present-day relationship — showing up as the same fight, on repeat, not because you haven't tried, but because the old response is faster than either of you can think.
We help you both understand what's happening in present time, without asking either of you to relive feelings you aren't already carrying. We'll quickly help you understand why old feelings surface between you and what to do — together — to separate the past from your relationship's ability to move forward.
What's more, we'll help you both see the process, so that every time an old pattern threatens to hijack a present moment, you'll each know exactly what to do about it — as a team.
We know what the roadmap to shared healing looks like, and we're ready to hand you both your keys.

We work as an out-of-network provider so you get therapy built around your goals, not your insurance company's session limits. Most clients use out-of-network benefits to offset the cost.
